Seasonally decorated stalls bathed in a festive glow are set against the magnificent town hall and beautiful timber-framed houses. The aromas of roasted almonds and glühwein fill the air, tempting everyone to the Christmas market in Wernigerode. There are Christmas events and concerts all around the town. Don't miss a Christmas trip up Mount Brocken on the Harz narrow-gauge railway, when you can ride through the snowy countryside in an old-style carriage pulled by a steam engine - there'll be a few surprises in store too.
