Every year, Bielefield's Christmas market buzzes with activity under a sea of twinkling lights. More than 100 seasonally decorated booths extend right across the town centre, and there is plenty of Christmas entertainment for visitors. Jahnplatz square provides a modern, urban setting with its bright red huts illuminated by a myriad of lights, while the venerable patrician town houses on Alter Markt are a more traditional backdrop for its festive medieval-style stalls. The quaint village of wooden huts assembled on Altstädter Kirchplatz square is a popular meeting place with a particularly relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
