Rotenburg an der Fulda is a picture-postcard medieval town with a history that goes back more than 750 years. Its Christmas market, said to be the most romantic in Hessen, boasts one of the tallest Christmas pyramids in Germany. Thousands of Christmas lights adorn the half-timbered houses and the Christmas market, bathing the historical town centre in a delightful glow and illuminating the market square, St. James's Church and the Renaissance town hall. One of the best times to enjoy this is on 3 December when the market opens until midnight.
