Speyer

The Christmas and New Year?s market in front of the Old Mint
During the festive season, the air outside the Old Mint in Maximilianstrasse is full of delicious aromas, such as glühwein, roasted almonds and Alsace Flammkuchen. At the heart of the action are stalls hosted by eight towns twinned with Speyer from as far away as Rwanda. Browse hand-crafted items in the town hall courtyard and watch the artisans at work in the marquees. A spectacular experience is the Old Gate, one of the tallest town gates in Germany, being lit up by a dramatic curtain of Bengal fire as the Christmas trumpets sound.
