Lights shaped like the lilies on the city’s coat of arms, festive aromas and Christmas music set the scene for Wiesbaden’s annual Christmas market. Called the Sternschnuppenmarkt, it takes place on picturesque Schlossplatz square around a towering, 30-metre Christmas tree adorned with beautiful decorations. Four gates in the shape of lilies form the entrances to this fairytale scene. The oriental-style stalls decked out in blue and gold are a treasure trove of arts and crafts, some of them made locally. There’s a wide range of products to choose from, including olive wood items, honey specialities, handblown glass art and sweet treats from the world’s greatest confectioners. Kids will love the old-fashioned carousels, children’s railway and life-size, wooden Nativity scene. Choirs, Nativity plays, trumpet fanfares and concerts complete the festive atmosphere.
