Hessen
From Sleeping Beauty to modern art

View of the Alte Oper in Frankfurt
The state of Hessen, whose capital is Wiesbaden, extends from the Sauerland region in the north to the Odenwald forest in the south and from the Rhön hills in the east to the Taunus hills in the west. Hessen is second to none in the variety of experiences it has to offer. Its natural scenery encompasses heathland and ancient woodland, moorland and beautiful lakes and rivers. Evidence of a history dating back to the times of the Germanic tribes, the ancient Romans and the Middle Ages is preserved here. Hessen is located at the intersection of major transport routes and Frankfurt airport is an international aviation hub. Hessen's numerous spas and health resorts attract the health-conscious.
