Sylt - Germany's largest North Sea island -  offers 40km of beaches of the finest sand, frothy waves in the west and the gentle Wadden Sea in the east.

The children's clubs on Sylt are parent-free zones. Kampen's Kampino Kinderclub provides exciting children's excursions, games and much more. Little ones can clamber around to their heart's content at Villa Kunterbunt in Westerland, which has a playground with a trampoline, a slide, a lighthouse and a pirate ship. For under 9s wanting a taste of real pirate life, there's a trip aboard the "Gret Palucca" in List: suitably attired in pirate dress, they board the cutter and set out on a treasure hunt. A more leisurely option is to walk across the Hörnum sandbar. Another attraction is the annual Island Circus in Wenningstedt. Staged between June and August, it features artists from all over the world as well as opportunities to join in. Aside from the many holiday homes and apartments, the best places for families to stay include the Dorfhotel Sylt and the Dorint Strandresort & Spa Westerland.
