Sylt
Nivea Surf World Cup

The Nivea Surf World Cup is without doubt one of the largest watersport events in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Top windsurfers compete for coveted world ranking points in the disciplines of waveriding and slalom 42. The event is known as the "Wimbledon of Windsurfing" in professional circles.

Racing the wind
Alongside Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, both also Grand Prix events, the Surf World Cup in Sylt is the most prestigious competition of the PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association) World Tour. Windsurfers flock from more than twenty countries to take part in this spectacular sporting occasion. There are also accompanying beach soccer and beach volleyball competitions. Indeed the Beach Volleyball Masters Series, the most important event of its kind in Germany, originated as part of the Surf World Cup. Once the day's action is over you can dance to the hottest new beats at the "after surf club".

Places of interest

Sylt's attractions are mainly shaped by maritime and historical traditions. St. Severin's Church for instance, is one of the oldest churches on the North Frisian Islands. The Uwe Düne sand dune is the highest elevation on Sylt, and offers a stunning panoramic view of the whole island. The Hörnum lighthouse is the southernmost point of the island.
