Art & culture

Hannover Opera House, copyright Hannover Tourismus Service
Indoors and outdoors, Hannover is one big art exhibition. A street art project in the 1970s that provoked plenty of discussion and debate at the time has become a hallmark of the city. The Nana figures by Niki de Saint Phalle stand on the banks of the River Leine. The cultural scene as a whole is rich and varied. The state opera and theatre are internationally acclaimed.

Opera House
The Hannover State Opera, built by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves, was completed in 1852. An opera guide published in London ranks Hannover's opera among the top 20 in the world.

Theatre (Schauspielhaus)
The Schauspielhaus is one of the leading theatres in the German-speaking world. The building also incorporates the Theatre Museum and, in a historical stairwell, the Cumberland Gallery with its performance space and bar.

The “Theater am Aegi”
The Theater am Aegi is a private theatre with an extensive programme of concerts, theatre, musicals, opera, operetta, ballet, dance, comedy and varieté.
