Tip
Belzig's historical town centre
The small town of Belzig is over 1,000 years old and has evolved into a state-of-the-art spa resort whilst retaining its historical charm in its winding lanes and lovingly restored town houses. Of special interest in the centre of the town are the Renaissance town hall, the municipal church of St. Mary, Reissiger House and many small, intricate details on the historic town houses. Every year on the last weekend in August the Belzig summer festival offers music, dancing, and culinary specialities in over 30 romantic courtyards in the old quarter.

Boulders, castles and dry valleys

Medieval castles with massive circular towers and fortified walls, romantic stone churches and magnificent palaces - these are the cultural and historical highlights of this 122 kilometre circular trail through the Hoher Fläming hills nature park. Giant, myth-enshrouded glacial boulders and dry valleys created after the ice-age provide aspects of natural history interest.

About 300,000 years ago during the Saalian ice age, advancing ice sheets formed the landscape of the Fläming region, bringing with them massive boulders from Scandinavia. The “Paradise” area near Dippmannsdorf is full of springs which also originated during this period. About 50 springs bubble up through the glacial moraine to form pools and streams spanned by romantic bridges.

Meadows, woods, hedges, boulder heaps, rows of fruit trees and tranquil villages with stone churches are also characteristic of the Kunstwanderweg (Art Trail), a link route between Belzig and Wiesenburg. Here, ten artists are using the trail as a gigantic open-air exhibition for a perfect blend of art and nature. Regional artists' studios and architectural monuments from virtually every epoch reinforce the impression that Fläming is a region for art lovers.
