Regions

Lower Saxony in the north-west of Germany covers a wide variety of landscapes and habitats, from the North Sea coast and offshore islands to Lüneburg Heath and the Harz mountains.

The North Sea coast is the ideal destination for a relaxing holiday – whether on one of the seven East Frisian islands such as Borkum and Wangerooge, or along the coastline stretching from Cuxhaven to Emden. This amazing landscape consists almost entirely of nature conservation areas.

Covering an area of 230 km˛, Lüneburg Heath is the largest contiguous expanse of heathland in western Europe. Lüneburg Heath is a protected site featuring a wealth of rich and varied scenery and vegetation, and the ideal place to experience nature at its best.

Emsland is a charming holiday region with a wealth of natural scenery, pretty towns and villages, and impressive relics from 1,000 years of cultural history. The best way to explore the region's forests, rivers, moors and heathland is by bike. Emsland is also an ideal destination for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts.

The Weserbergland hills with their romantic upland scenery and gently rolling landscape derive their name from the river Weser, along which picturesque medieval towns line up like strings on a pearl from Hannoversch Münden to Hamlyn. You can explore this diverse hill country by bike along the Weser Cycle Route. One of the region's main highlights is Hamlyn, the town saved from rats by the Pied Piper in 1284. Unfortunately, he was not paid and took 130 children from the town in revenge.
