Action-packed days

Hills, forests and an abundance of water: the five big lakes in and around the Sauerland offer family days full of fun, sport and adventure.

Lake Biggesee, Lake Diemelsee, Lake Hennesee, Lake Möhnesee and Lake Sorpesee - these Sauerland lakes are set in idyllic scenery and offer a huge choice of watersports for every age group: swimming, windsurfing, sailing and diving. A trip on one of the cruise boats which glide around the lakes from spring to autumn is a relaxing way to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. For a day out in the heart of nature, visit the Vosswinkel Forest near Arnsberg and follow the 10km trail through the Lüerwald conservation area, which has lots of information points about the forest's inhabitants and the secrets of this ancient woodland. Young adventurers can get an adrenaline rush on the ropes course, then let off steam at the adventure playground which features a rope bridge, zip wire, water pump and rafting on the forest pond. Fort Fun Adventureland in Bestwig and Panorama Park in Oberhundem, both of which offer fun shows and lots of rides, are well worth an excursion. A tour of Ramsbeck ore mine is an education for everyone, not just children. After donning protective clothing and a hard hat, visitors descend 300 metres below ground where former miners are on hand to talk about their working conditions in the mine. At the Bödefeld interactive museum, visitors can take a journey through the Sauerland's history. How has the landscape changed over the centuries? Which animals and plants live in this region? All is revealed by a series of interactive exhibits and talking animal models.
