Well over 40 trade fairs and exhibitions are now established in Dortmund. These include both regional and international specialist trade fairs as well as consumer and special interest exhibitions for hobbies and leisure, which attract a wide range of people from far and wide. Europe's hunting community makes an annual pilgrimage to Dortmund, as do model makers and tobacco goods traders from all over the world – the Exhibition Centre welcomes one million visitors and 9,000 exhibitors through its doors every year. At the end of January every year "Jagd und Hund", the international exhibition for hunting and fishing, takes place in Dortmund. The industry's flagship event in Europe gives 500 exhibitors from 20 countries the opportunity to showcase wildlife conservation, fishery, hunting equipment and angling accessories. Every year the exhibition attracts around 63,000 visitors from all over Germany.Intermodellbau model-making exhibition
With more than 20,000 individual models in an area of 48,000m², the Intermodellbau is home to the largest range of models in Europe. Every April, 100,000 visitors flock to see the miniature models of aeroplanes, cars and ships. See the models in action in the demonstration areas that include a 400m² mini-ocean. 450 companies and 4 national model-making associations participate in the exhibition. Inter-tabac tobacco industry trade fair
Inter-tabac is Germany's flagship trade fair for tobacco products and smoking accessories. More than 150 companies showcase their range of tobacco products to specialist buyers, wholesalers and individual retailers. Almost 4,500 trade visitors from all over Germany and its neighbouring countries come to this trade fair held annually in September (members of the general public are not permitted).
