Art & culture

Beautiful parks and gardens, monuments and sculptures by well-known artists... a walk around Celle is an experience for all the senses. The art museum offers round-the-clock exhibitions and the Eberhard Schlotter Museum has numerous works by this important post-war German artist. Productions of all kinds are staged at the palace theatre, Europe's oldest baroque theatre still in use.
Celle Art Museum
Celle Art Museum, which incorporates the Robert Simon Collection, is the world's first 24-hour museum. Objects from temporary and permanent exhibitions are on display throughout the day and night. A variety of collections, object boxes and paintings by well-known artists can be admired during the day; at night, elaborate luminous art objects shine in the darkness through the museum's glazed façade.
Eberhard Schlotter Foundation
Eberhard Schlotter is one of Germany's most important post-war artists. On display here are over 300 oil paintings, more than 400 watercolours and in excess of 4,200 graphic works, as well as portfolio works, bibliophile works and texts illustrated by the artist.
Palace theatre
The ducal palace theatre has its own ensemble with an extensive repertoire covering classic drama, comedies and musicals.
