Heidelberg Castle

High above the Neckar river is Heidelberg's crown jewel. The more than 600 years old Heidelberg Castle is the most magnificent ruin in Germany. From the 13th to the 17th century it was home to different Prince Electors. Its building styles range from Gothic to Renaissance. Particularly fascinating is the castle cellar which houses the famous and world's largest wine vat with a capacity of 55,000 gallons.
