Saarbrücken Castle

In 999, Saarbrücken was documented as "Castellum Sarabrucca" for the first time. In The castle was destroyed several times but it was always rebuilt. In the 17th century it was rebuilt in the style of the Rennaissance, and later destroyed again so that today only the cellars of this construction remain. In the 18th century, Prince Wilhelm Heinrich of Nassau-Saarbrücken had his famous architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel build a new residence on the same site, but this time in the Baroque style. During the French Revolution, part of it was burnt down before it was transformed into middle-class flats in 1810. From 1982 to 1989 it was thoroughly renovated.
