Permanent exhibitions

Düsseldorf Exhibitions
Permanent exhibitions offer fascinating insights into Düsseldorf's history and other specific themes. Visitors to the Goethe Museum can see original exhibits relating to Germany's foremost writer. The municipal museum houses collections on the history and cultural history of the city, and the theatre museum documents the history of theatre in Düsseldorf.
Goethe Museum Anton and Katharina Kippenberg Foundation
Visitors to the museum are guided through eleven rooms where Goethe's life and works are documented in chronological order with around 1,000 exhibits. First editions of individual works are displayed in glass showcases, surrounded by draft pages and letters written during their creation. Paintings of the town and landscapes show the places where Goethe's works were created, and there are pictures of Goethe and his friends.
Municipal Museum
The municipal museum is Düsseldorf's oldest museum. A bequest of oil paintings in 1873 provided the impetus for the establishment of the museum. Laid out over three floors, the museum's permanent collection contains a variety of exhibits tracing the development of Düsseldorf and its surrounding area from pre-history and early history to the present day.
The Dumont-Lindemann Archive Theatre Museum
The Theatre Museum - the only one of its kind in Germany - documents German theatrical history using Düsseldorf as an example. The main areas of interest are performance styles, and how they have changed through the ages, theatre of the Enlightenment, 20th century theatre, German theatre history using Düsseldorf as an example, the drama on the stage, stage design and technology and individual authors and works.
