Food & drink

Aachen, two glasses of wine, copyright Verkehrsverein Bad Aachen
Aachen is famous for the Aachener Printe – a kind of gingerbread widely known throughout Germany. It can be enjoyed at any time of year either as a classic spiced Printe, or topped with icing, chocolate or flaked almonds.

Alt Aachener Kaffeestuben
Aachen's oldest cafe, has been in business for around 180 years and is still furnished in a style which looks very much like it would have done when it was first opened. It has a large collection of Printe tins and is a fine place to sample this Aachen speciality. Also recommended are the rice pancakes and the regularly changing lunchtime specials.

Restaurant Kohlibri
Restaurant, bistro and café in one. Gourmet experience with a view. Its unusual location in a car showroom high above the rooftops of Aachen affords fascinating views over the city and its surroundings.

Restaurant Mediterraneo
Whether or not you visit the thermal baths themselves, this restaurant in Aachen's Carolus Spa serves up delicious mediterranean cuisine and offers views of the impressive spa hall - a most unusual setting. The menu changes regularly and is based on fresh ingredients from the market.
