The Neuss Local History Society was founded back in 1839. Today the formation of this society is considered to have been the seed for the town's museum culture. A little later, thanks to a generous donation by the private collector Clemens Sels and his wife Pauline, the foundations of the Museum of Art and Art History - today the Clemens Sels Museum - could be laid.Clemens Sels Museum
The Clemens Sels Museum, named after the famous German art collector, can be found right in the centre of town. This Museum of Art and Art History contains exhibits on Roman, medieval and modern art. Its collections of works by international symbolist painters and the Nabi art movement has made the museum famous throughout Germany.
