Green Things to See and Do

Light Cocoon by Andre Heller at RWE Park in Essen, Germany; Copyright NRW Tourism
German engineers have invented immense environmental technologies; and architects have created innovative and uncommon designs as contribution to an increased environmentalism during the past decades.

The building that houses the Federal Environment Agency in Dessau near Berlin is an example of one such kind of architecture. Solar and thermal technologies, intelligent air circulation and environmentally friendly substances have been integrated in its ecological construction. Frequently changing exhibitions on environmental topics and guided tours are on offer at this unique eco-building.

The Klimahaus in Bremerhaven is a specially designed interactive museum. Here you will be able to learn about climate change, weather and its impact on the earth.

The well-known Deutsches Museum in Munich presents a permanent exhibition about our changing climate and gives you an insight of possible consequences as well as the history of environmentalism.

After the success of his previous panorama exhibitions "8848Everest360°" and "Rome 312", Vienna-born architect Yadegar Asisi lets the Brazilian rainforest rise on a scale of 1:1 at the Panometer in Leipzig. The new exhibition "Amazonien", another 360-degree panoramic giant image and one of the largest panoramas in the world, serves as homage to the German naturalist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt who died 150 years ago. Accompanying music and sounds, as well as alternating day and night views let you experience one day in the Amazon's rainforest. Visitors can learn more about the eco-system of tropical rainforests at the adjacent exhibition.
