Shopping

Eberbach Abbey is situated near the Rhine-Main region, which boasts an abundance of towns and cities that are perfect for shopping. "Mainhatten", as Frankfurt is often called, is home to the Zeil, the top shopping street in Germany, while in Mainz you can enjoy a gentle stroll around the shops in the shadows of its splendid cathedral.

Frankfurt
From the exclusive boutiques of Goethestrasse to the popular department stores on the Zeil and the upmarket shops on Schillerstrasse selling porcelain and household goods, Frankfurt has something for everyone. The shopping streets of the individual districts of Frankfurt are quieter, and this is where to go for junk shops selling bric-ŕ-brac and curiosities. There is a flea market on the banks of the river Main every Saturday morning with all sorts of odds and ends, antiques and clothing.

Mainz
Augustinerstrasse is one of the finest places in Mainz's old quarter for a gentle stroll. This was the town's main street until well into the 17th century. Today, you can soak up the atmosphere in its small shops and boutiques, cafés, pubs, restaurants and wine taverns. Mainz cathedral and market square stand in the heart of the town centre. The market held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays is one of the best in the region. Around the market and the Gutenberg Museum, you find department stores and specialist shops with views of the cathedral.

Darmstadt
Laid out over three floors, the Luisencenter shopping mall boasts department stores and a wide range of smaller shops. There is also a selection of cafés and restaurants. The attractive and exclusive goods on sale in the department stores and smaller shops in Wilhelminenstrasse and Elisabethenstrasse make the pedestrianised area a great place for a shopping spree. And if you need a break from shopping, why not rest your feet in one of the many cafés or restaurants.
