Historical festivals and customs feature heavily in the town's calendar of events. Among the highlights are the medieval town fair and the Kinderzeche historical festival.
Medieval town fair
"Life in a medieval town" features historical market stalls and traditional crafts set in idyllic courtyards, streets and lanes. Highlights of the old town festival are the Swedish pipers, flag throwers and the Dinkelsbühl boys' choir.
Kinderzeche festival
The historical Kinderzeche festival with short plays and dances from the Thirty Years' War is one of Germany's oldest and most colourful local festivals. It lasts for ten days and offers a diverse programme of entertainment.
Christmas market at Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Rothenburg's Reiterlesmarkt, set in an idyllic location between the town hall and St. Jacob's Church, is widely regarded as one of Germany's most atmospheric Christmas markets. Passageways twisting this way and that, the German Christmas Museum, the smell of glühwein and night-time torch-lit walks really put you in the mood for the festive season.
