Chorin
Niederfinow ship lift

This huge steel construction has counterweights weighing several tonnes and thick steel cables. It is the oldest operating ship lift in Germany and a fascinating monument to the history of technology. Ships are lifted seemingly without any effort.

Magnificent interplay between technology and nature
It is fascinating to watch ships being raised up from and down into the huge trough below the ship lift. This gigantic steel construction lifts ships up a height of 36 metres. You can enjoy stunning views across the Lower Oder Marsh and the Falkenberg and Lippe hills from the visitor platform on the lower canal section. Several passenger ships offer trips along the Oder river.
