Saarbrücken, the regional capital of the Saarland, is a modern city in the heart of the Saar-Lor-Lux region. Its love of all things French is visible everywhere, in its picturesque lanes and courtyards and in little bistros and countless restaurants. Visitors exploring this 1,000 year old town will discover the works of the great baroque architect Friedrich-Joachim Stengel at every turn..

Saarbrücken's three prettiest squares are Schlossplatz, Ludwigsplatz and St. Johanner Markt surrounded by the narrow lanes of the old town. The palace, with its avant-garde centrepiece, is a blend of baroque and modern styles and a lively venue for cultural events. Every Sunday in summer open-air concerts are held in the palace garden.
