Art & culture

Heidelberg Theatre stage
The romantic dream town of so many artists from all over the world is today a vibrant centre of culture, which combines a sense of tradition with a love of cultural experimentation. More than ten museums, the triple-genre municipal theatre, the Zwinger 3 youth theatre, various orchestras, a number of private theatres and international forums offer culture at its best.

Museum of Ecclesiastical Arts
The entrance to the Museum of Ecclesiastical Arts is inside the Jesuit church. The only museum of its kind in Baden-Württemberg contains ecclesiastical art from the 17th to the 19th century. Particularly worth seeing are a large silver madonna by J. Ignaz Saller (1736), goblets, monstrances, liturgical vestments, books, paintings, sculptures and ecclesiastical objects.

Heidelberg Art Gallery (Kunstverein)

In a large, light building at the centre of Heidelberg's old quarter, the Heidelberg Kunstverein has three floors of contemporary art, including travelling exhibitions of international contemporary art.
