Wernigerode is the "colourful town" in the legendary Harz. With its medieval timber-framed architecture, winding alleyways and numerous historical buildings, the small town of Wernigerode radiates an extra-special charm. Particularly impressive buildings include the town hall, the Gadenstedt Family’s House and Krummel's House. The Western Gate Tower, part of the old ring of fortifications, is also well worth visiting.

In Wernigerode Castle visitors can see up-close how the aristocrats used to live. A contrast to this is provided by the "Kleinstes Haus" (smallest house), which shows how ordinary families used to use to live, while the Museum for Aviation and Technology is a 'must' for those interested in all aspects of flight.
