Coloured glass factory in Lauscha

Situated in the Thuringian Forest, Lauscha is the glassblowing capital of Germany and the birthplace of the glass Christmas tree decoration. Christmas dreams come true here all year round.

The art of glassmaking in the Thuringian Forest
Dominated by its glassworks and the art of glassmaking for centuries, from the middle of the 19th century the Thuringian glassblowing town of Lauscha became famous for its Christmas tree baubles, which it exports around the world. The appeal of glassmaking is still as strong as ever and you can buy all types of glassware at Lauscha's prestigious coloured glass factory as well as at the Glass Craft Museum and at the many workshops in the town .

Lauscha - the glassblowing capital and birthplace of glass Christmas tree decorations - is located in an idyllic setting surrounded by the Thuringian Forest. The town is known for its glassblowing tradition stretching back over more than 400 years and has numerous demonstration workshops where visitors can watch the glassblowers at work.

The Glass Craft Museum in Lauscha was established to pay homage to the town's glassblowing tradition. It presents a whole host of interesting facts about the history of Thuringian glass from the 16th century to the present day.
