Alongside its bakery traditions, medieval architecture and array of parks and gardens Freiburg also has a state-of-the-art exhibition centre and a regional airport. A myriad of students and international visitors create a rich multi-cultural atmosphere. The people of Freiburg like to think of Mount Schauinsland as their very own. Together with a number of lakes it is located just a few kilometres from the town centre.

Every year Freiburg hosts some 35 trade fairs and exhibitions, attracting an average of around 400,000 people. Established trade fairs in Freiburg include the Baden Fair, the CFT exhibition for camping, leisure and tourism, the Modellbau model-making fair, the ecotrend exhibition and the specialist trade fair "office + communication", as well as the industry trade fairs Interbrossa - Brushexpo and "Industry + Electronics".

With a view of the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains Freiburg Exhibition Centre is situated on the outskirts of the town very close to the university and Freiburg's regional airport. The exhibition grounds are also easily accessible by suburban railway (S-Bahn) or car. The nearest international airport, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is just 40 minutes away.
