Fine Wines and precious Stones

Like a treasure chamber of nature the Nahe valley lies below the southern foothills of the Hunsrück, a side valley of the Rhine. The cultivated landscape of the Nahe valley is dominated by vineyards, in which fine wines are grown, but also by castles, palaces and a particularly mild and beneficial climate.

Idar-Oberstein, a town of precious stones, is the first shimmering highlight on your journey. It is here that you will find the world's first and only diamond and gem bourse and fascinating gem mines, open to the public. You can witness gem cutters and engravers at their work and take a really exceptional souvenir home with you. Further downstream you will reach Kirn with its famous symbol, the 1000-year-old Kyrburg castle.

Vital Valley

Health and well-being are important features of the Dreibädertal valley: relax your body and soul in the spa towns of Bad Kreuz-nach, Bad Münster with the Stein-Ebernburg castle and Bad Sobernheim. You can regain vitality through a wide variety of treatments involving, for instance, salt-water, mudpacks, thermal baths or light therapy as well as water or radon therapy. And it is not all just about health: your taste buds will also be satisfied in the Nahe valley as the region is particularly renowned for its wide selection of good wines.

Starting in sunny Bad Sobernheim, you can begin a very special form of active holiday: on a bicycle-driven trolley you can follow the former railway line, exploring the romantic Glantal valley south of the Nahe in an exceptional way. The spectacular saline valley, Europe's biggest open air inhalation area in the beautiful spa town of Bad Kreuznach, offers especially healthy air. Let yourself be thoroughly spoilt in this relaxing spa town before you head off to the historic town of Bingen and return to the Rhine at the mouth of the Nahe.
