Nature` s silent Dream

The water of the River Lahn and the uplands of the Rothaargebirge, the Taunus and the Westerwald, are ingredients with which nature has succeeded in creating a wonderful region for relaxation. The river's tranquil course influences its character: the conditions are ideal for canoeing.

Not far from the river's source the historic town of Bad Laasphe and Wittgenstein Castle invite you to pay a visit. And then let yourself be whisked off into the Rothaargebirge nature reserve with its dense forests, romantic valleys and crystal clear streams. The charming old university city of Marburg awaits you next and, with the Landgrave Castle towering above, invites you to take a stroll through the historic old town with its many street cafés (see picture).

All kinds of Fun

Further downstream on the Lahn, you come to Giessen and then Wetzlar where the young Goethe was inspired to write his first best-seller "The Sorrows of Young Werther". Braunfels is like something out of a fairytale and the fairytale castle, with its genuine medieval hall, sits in splendour in the town's historic centre. The royal city of Weilburg, situated high on a promontory and with terraced palace grounds, is a feast for the eyes. An interesting curiosity for boat tours is the river tunnel (see picture). In Limburg the city's symbol, the impressive Romanesque cathedral, catches your eye immediately. In Bad Ems you can experience "made to measure" health treatments, where once crowned heads from all over Europe came to take the waters. A visit to Lahneck Castle which towers above Lahnstein at the mouth of the Lahn is also to be recommended.
