Helmut Lachenmann *1935

Helmut Lachenmann (*1935) Helmut Lachenmann was born in 1935 in Stuttgart and studied there with Johann Nepumuk David, before moving to Venice as a student of Luigi Nono. In 1961, Lachenmann settled in Munich as a freelance pianist and composer. The extreme nature of Lachenmann's works was guaranteed to cause a stir at the big contemporary music festivals in Darmstadt and Donaueschingen. A number of years ago, his opera Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern (The Little Match Girl) provoked a huge scandal in Hamburg, but his uncompromising and fascinating work has since been well received throughout Europe.
