Franconian Red Wine Trail

The Franconian Red Wine Trail which links vineyards in the Churfranken region has been in existence since 1990. It's ideal for walkers who like the good things in life. The 55km trail takes in vineyards in beautiful locations, towns and villages and the charming surroundings of the Main valley.
The Franconian Red Wine Trail, marked with a red wine glass, starts on Lützeltalerberg hill in Grosswallstadt, and ends at Centgrafenberg vineyard in Bürgstadt. The route is divided into five one-day sections so you can enjoy the scenery as you walk, admiring the views, strolling in old villages and tasting a fine drop or two of the wines made in the countryside along the Franconian Red Wine Trail.
If you would rather not walk on your own, you can book a guide  from "Weinerlebnis Franken" who will show you the vineyards along the way at close hand, suggest lots of great ideas and tell you about the region's geology, history, flora and fauna as well as about ecological viticulture.

River Main triangle - introductory tour

This circular cycle tour of around 85km starts in Volkach and largely follows the River Main to Würzburg, Randersacker, Eibelstadt, Sommerhausen, Ochsenfurt, Frickenhausen, Segnitz and Marktbreit then returns to Volkach via Kitzingen, Dettelbach and Sommerach.
Wine villages line the banks of the Main so you can decide for yourself where you want to take a break.

Day 1
From Volkach you cycle on well maintained roads through the villages of Prosselsheim, Kürnach and Estenfeld to Würzburg, 25 km away. As you descend into the basin you have a stunning view of the town, Marienberg Citadel and Käppele pilgrimage church.

Day 2
From Würzburg follow the Main upstream as it flows between vine-clad hills. You now come across the well-known wine villages of Randersacker, Eibelstadt, Sommerhausen and Frickenhausen, which are worth a detour. After Marktbreit you then arrive in Kitzingen.

Day 3
From Kitzingen you cycle via Schwarzach to the "wine islands" of Sommerach and Nordheim, just a short distance from Volkach where the trail starts and finishes.
