Suggested excursions

Hechingen is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside as it is only a short distance from the Swabian Alb, the Black Forest and Lake Constance. The university town of Tübingen with its pretty old quarter is also on right on the doorstep.

Tübingen
Steep stone steps, narrow alleyways and pointed gables are the hallmarks of Tübingen's old quarter leading up to Hohentübingen Castle. This Swabian university town combines the feel of a lovingly restored medieval town centre with the vibrancy of a youthful student town.

Lake Constance
Apart from the contrasting valleys of the Rhine, Danube and Neckar rivers, the region set against the backdrop of the Alps also boasts one of the largest German lakes, Lake Constance. Its well-known attractions include the flower island of Mainau, the island of Reichenau (a UNESCO world heritage site), the town of Constance, the Zeppelin museum and prehistoric buildings on stilts. More and more people also come here to take part in sports and fitness activities or to savour the tranquillity of the villages around the lake.
