Events

Each June the roads between Koblenz and Bingen are closed to traffic. The "TaltoTal" festival involves the longest road closure in Europe, enabling visitors to cycle or rollerblade freely along car-free roads. An exciting and varied programme of entertainment takes place in the surrounding villages. This is the perfect event for those who wish to get to know the region whilst enjoying sporting activities.
The Magic Nights which take place along the Rhine between Bonn and Rüdesheim are fascinating spectacles and an unforgettable experience. Every year on the second Saturday in August more than 70 boats take part in Europe's largest boat procession between Bopparder Hamm and the town of Spay. Castles, palaces and ruins are bathed in the red light of Bengali fire whilst fireworks burst and sparkle above in the night sky.
The traditional onion market takes place in Boppard each September. Its origins can be traced back to the Middle Ages when onion sellers from a nearby island on the Rhine came to sell their wares in Boppard. Stalls buzzing with activity can be found on the Rheinallee in front of the large hotels and on the market square.
