Sailing and windsurfing - the best places

Several windsurfer in the wind
The North Sea and the Baltic have a whole string of places that could have been designed with sailing and windsurfing in mind. Top of the North Sea destinations - for experienced windsurfers especially - are Sylt, Amrum and St. Peter-Ording, resorts that also have plenty of après-surf. For sailors and windsurfers who prefer fewer waves, the Baltic is ideal: a true sailing paradise. Sailing on the Schlei is a real insider's tip. Kiel Bay, Lübeck Bay and the Flensburg Firth are good for combining sailing with some city sightseeing or one of many international sailing events.
Germany's lakes are hard to beat for sailing and windsurfing: Lake Constance, Lake Chiemsee, Lake Ammersee, Lake Starnberg, Lake Müritz, Lake Schwerin, the Mecklenburg lakeland area, the waters of the Havel and Lake Scharmützelsee. Lake Müggelsee in Berlin and the Alster lake in Hamburg also offer excellent conditions.
