Nature & greenery

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley near Bingen is a UNESCO World Heritage site with an incredible wealth of flora and fauna. This area of unspoilt river scenery with its bare, steeply rising banks is an impressive natural attraction. Whether you are walking through the shady forests on the north-facing hillsides or in the Fulder Aue nature conservation area, visiting Bingen's man-made swimming lake or taking a boat trip through the narrow valleys, you're sure to experience nature at its best in Bingen.
 
Rhine meadows near Bingen-Gaulsheim
The Rhine meadows near Bingen are part of the Fulder Aue - Ilmen Aue nature conservation area and the "Rheinauen" European nature reserve. Carved out by the Rhine, this outstanding landscape is home to numerous species of animal and plant. Nature lovers will be in their element in this wild and romantic setting.
 
Man-made swimming lake
Bingen's man-made swimming lake has a completely environmentally friendly water purification system that uses four regeneration ponds. Blending in harmoniously with the surrounding landscape, the lake is a great place for swimming and sunbathing while enjoying views of the Rhine Valley.
