300 years of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory

The discovery in Germany of how to make hard-paste porcelain and the subsequent founding of the Meissen manufactory in 1710 marked the beginning of European porcelain history. In 2010 the Meissen manufactory (www.meissen.com) celebrates its 300th anniversary. Supported by numerous partners, the jubilee year will be marked throughout the year with a host of exhibitions and commemorative events.

'All Nations are Welcome' is the title of the anniversary exhibition at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory from January to December 2010. The exhibition highlights the various facets of Meissen's international character with a breathtaking display of porcelain. On show are exquisite Meissen pieces which offer a superb reflection on how cultures and changing trends have influenced three centuries of porcelain production. You will be able to see the porcelain made for Catherine the Great of Russia as well as contemporary porcelain art which includes the statue of a bald eagle made for the US embassy in Berlin.
