Hannover
Herrenhausen Gardens

Herrenhausen Gardens comprise the most important styles of garden design, including a baroque garden in the French style, an English landscaped garden and a botanical garden.

Garden paradise
Created between the 17th and 19th century for the Hannover electors and kings, these fascinating gardens unite the most important styles of landscape design. At the heart of the gardens is the Grosse Garten, a baroque garden in the French style, which has a huge fountain, a wide variety of water features, a pumping works and a maze. In the summer months the splendid flower displays provide a stunning backdrop for extravagant festivals. The Georgengarten was designed in the English style, while the Berggarten is one of the oldest botanic gardens in Germany. In addition there are several hundred orchids to be admired in Europe's most diverse orchid collection.

From 20th century art treasures to local and municipal history, from the Ancient Egyptians and antiquity to aerospace and caricature, Hannover's diverse museums have one thing in common: excellence. The Sprengel Museum, the Kestner Museum and the Lower Saxony State Museum are firm favourites with visitors to Hannover.

Indoors and outdoors, Hannover is one big art exhibition. A street art project in the 1970s that provoked plenty of discussion and debate at the time has become a hallmark of the city. The Nana figures by Niki de Saint Phalle stand on the banks of the River Leine. The cultural scene as a whole is rich and varied. The state opera and theatre are internationally acclaimed.
