Gersfeld
Mount Wasserkuppe

The highest peak in Hessen has bare, gentle slopes and offers stunning views across the region. It is a mecca for gliding enthusiasts, a popular destination for hikers and a centre for winter sports in the Rhön hills.

Pilot's peak
This 950 metre high peak is widely regarded as the birthplace of gliding in Germany. When the weather is good, gliders, light aircraft, hang-gliders and paragliders can be seen in the skies above the mountain. Hikers and mountain bikers climb "pilot's peak" to enjoy the unforgettable view over the plateaus. In the winter months both the mountain's steep and gentle slopes are transformed into a popular ski resort.
