Food & drink

Dresden Old town and Elbe, Copyright Norbert Krüger
Dresden is a sensuous city; many and varied are the pleasures it offers. It welcomes true connoisseurs with open arms. Hearty dishes tend to feature in Saxony's cuisine. Classics include marinated braised beef, potato soup, Quarkkeulchen (sweetened potato pancakes) and Eierschecke (similar to cheesecake). Don't miss Dresden Christstollen around Christmas time.
The restaurant and café by the "Blaues Wunder", the suspension bridge over the Elbe, is a pearl of Saxon gastronomy. Inside, Art Nouveau elements, dark wood, leather furniture and fabulous chandeliers evoke intentional associations with France. The cooking is a fusion of modern and traditional. Specialities such as Saxon Sauerbraten (marinated braised beef) and other hearty dishes feature on the menu alongside traditional German dishes complemented with seasonal specialities. The café also has its own patisserie which makes a range of delicious cakes.
Restaurant Caroussel at Hotel Bülow Residenz
Top-quality light, modern cooking. The restaurant is one of the best in Saxony.
Rossini at the Dresden Hilton (next to the Church of Our Lady)
The sensitive and creative cooking at the Rossini gives a new twist to Italian gourmet cuisine.
