These routes are not restricted to one region, nor even one country. Each has its own name, and they mostly use a unified system of signposting throughout. This is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to combine safety with the opportunity to enjoy Germany's unspoilt scenery. Traffic is negligible and many sections are completely free of cars. Many cycle paths take in Germany's fabulous water scenery. There are a number of river routes: the Elbe Cycle Route, the Danube Cycle Route, the Weser Cycle Route and the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route, for instance. There are also lake routes, such as the Lake Constance Cycle Route (273 km), and routes along the coast: the Baltic Coast Cycle Route, for example.
Package tours are available for groups and individual travellers, where luggage is transported for you and accommodation provided. Around 200 cycling holiday operators offer package tours. The German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC) not only has a useful listing but also plenty of useful information about cycling in Germany and some very attractive ideas for cycling tours.

Cycles can be hired in all of Germany's holiday regions. There are also cycle hire points at or near many railway stations in association with German railways (Deutsche Bahn AG): www.bahn.de.
Accommodation where cyclists are especially welcome is indicated by a German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC) plaque showing the "Bed & Bike" quality marque. These locations are listed on the internet at www.bettundbike.de (only German version).
