Loreley and Castles Route
Myths and legends of the Loreley

A firework display lights up the Rhine

No one is a stranger here for long. Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations and learn a few things about the country, people and history that you won't find in any travel guide. You can enjoy a glass of Rhenish wine at one of the many winegrowers' or regional festivals or visit one of the rock, pop and classical music events at the Loreley open-air theatre, Germany's most beautiful amphitheatre with impressive acoustics! The "Rhine in Flames" festival takes place every year in September. This amazing light show and massive firework display at the Loreley is a magical spectacle of fire, water and light set against the backdrop of Rheinfels, Katz and Maus (cat & mouse) castles, attracting visitors from all over the world who are enthralled by the charm and the beauty of the river Rhine. You can find out more about the legendary Loreley rock at the country park and visitor centre. Visitors will be captivated by the magic of many castles and palaces with their colourful history that have left their mark all over the region.

The legendary Loreley sits proud on her rock

A steamer trip through the Loreley Valley is an absolute "must", especially at night when you can enjoy music and dance against a backdrop of romantic illuminated castles. There are several ways to get to know this route with its kaleidoscope of facets and colours: by bike, on walks (on the Rhineland-Pfalz trail, for example, or marked trails), by boat, by train or by car. Discover the magic of the legendary Loreley rock, romantic winegrowing villages and half-timbered buildings, enchanting castles and, of course, Germany's most beautiful river - the Rhine. Over the years, many poets and philosophers have been inspired by the river and its legendary scenery. Anyone who spends time here will have wonderful memories to treasure forever. That's what makes the Rhine so special.
