Lenggries
Lenggries is situated in the heart of the Isar Valley in the foothills of the Alps. The town is characterised by grand old farmhouses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, which offer an insight into rural Bavarian culture. The gateway to the Alps, Lenggries is a winter and summer paradise for visitors who enjoy holidaying out in the open air. With everything from skiing to hiking, there's something here for everyone. Construction of the baroque Church of St. James was completed in 1722. The building houses a number of treasures including frescos, reliquaries and statues. Originally built as a convent, the baroque Schloss Hohenburg now houses a girls' school and can therefore only be admired from outside. The ruins of the former Hohenburg Castle with its ramparts, keep tower and well shaft are also well worth a visit.
