Demmin

The impressive Hanseatic town of Demmin is situated in "Mecklenburg Switzerland" surrounded by the Western-Pomeranian river scenery. Situated on the banks of three rivers - the Peene, Tollense and Trebel - it is a paradise for nature lovers. Home to Germany's largest contiguous area of marsh and moorland and an incredible wealth of flora and fauna, the Peene valley is known as the "Amazon of the North".

Demmin is also renowned for its love of music. A variety of concerts are held throughout the year at the town's five concert halls. One of these popular venues is St. Bartholomew's Church. Up to 1,500 people can enjoy the incredible acoustics inside this Gothic building. Other attractions include the historical town hall, the Luisen Gate, which once housed the town prison and gunpowder tower, and the Ulanen monument erected in 1924 in Demmin's "Tannen" district in honour of the local regiment at the time.
