Beelitz
The picturesque asparagus-growing town of Beelitz in Brandenburg is renowned for its historic old quarter. With many architectural monuments, it has a special charm all of its own. Particular highlights include the neo-classical Old Post Station dating from the late 18th century and the Church of St. Mary and St. Nicholas dating from the 13th century. Beelitz' famous landmark, the water tower, is 40 metres high. The sanatorium - a massive hospital complex built in around 1900 to fight tuberculosis among the lower classes - and the Jewish cemetery are also worth visiting. You can learn all about the traditions of asparagus cutting at the Asparagus Museum in Beelitz.
