Opened in 1994, the Museum of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany on the museum mile in Bonn is a modern museum with 4,000m² of exhibition space and approximately 6,000 artefacts, photographs, documents and media relating to contemporary history from 1945 to present day. It presents aspects of political, economic, social, cultural and everyday history. The contemporary museum also holds temporary exhibitions and special events. Closed on Mondays.

The German Museum in Bonn is the first museum for contemporary research and technology in Germany. Five sections document 100 outstanding achievements in the areas of science and technology since 1945 in Germany, including many Nobel prize-winning research projects. Anyone who wants to know how an airbag works, marvel at the Transrapid magnetic monorail or learn about medical science and brain research should visit this museum. Closed on Mondays (except Easter Monday and Whit Monday), Women’s Carnival Day, Shrove Tuesday, Good Friday, 1 May, 24, 25 and 31 December. Guided tours are available. August Macke House was opened as a museum in 1991.The former home and studio documents the life and works of the German Expressionist August Macke (1887-1914). The top floor of the museum houses the only studio the artist ever had. This is where he met with his friends, Bonn students Ernst, Guillaume, Apollinaire, Delaunay, Münder, Klee and Marc. It was with Franz Marc that Macke painted the large "Paradise" mural in this building. As well as the permanent exhibitions, there are also temporary exhibitions on Expressionism and/or Rhenish painting. Closed on Mondays, and on the day of the women's carnival (a Thursday in February).

The museum was founded in 1912 by the zoologist Alexander Koenig, who became renowned for his research and collecting tours to Africa and the polar regions. One of the most acclaimed natural history museums in Germany, it houses exquisite zoological collections, dioramas, in particular of African habitats, and the famous Bengt-Berg bird collection. The museum aims to give visitors the opportunity to experience the interdependence within nature and the problematic relationship between man and nature with all their senses. The permanent exhibition entitled "Our Blue Planet – Life in the Network" shows examples of the richly varied collections covering savannah, rainforest, Arctic/Antarctic, central Europe, birdlife and vivarium. The museum opened in Bonn in 1999, offering a fascinating insight into the world of mathematics. Here, the research institute for discrete mathematics at Bonn University presents a collection of more than 1,200 exhibits, largely functional historical calculating machines and maths books dating back to the time of Gutenberg. At Arithmeum visitors can encounter the bizarre cogwheel mechanisms in mechanical calculating machines, the exciting world of modern, highly integrated logic chips and the symbiosis of technology, science and art. Bonn's Museum Mile consists of a number of different museums. Stretching for approx. 3 kilometres, it begins in the north with the Alexander Koenig Zoological Research Institute and Museum. Together, they form an impressive cultural attraction in the heart of the city. Beethoven House in Bonn has the world's largest Beethoven collection, making it an important memorial site for music lovers from all over the world. The historical atmosphere takes visitors back to the time of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) as soon as they step into the inner courtyard. A selection of 150 exhibits document the life and work of the composer. As well as his instruments and musical works, the museum also contains objects which tell us about Beethoven's everyday life. Among the most special treasures are the organ console from the old Minorite Church and Beethoven's last fortepiano. The museum also owns many authentic Beethoven portraits. Closed on New Year's Day, Carnival Monday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, 24-26 and 31 December. Guided tours available.
