Travel Tips for the Fall 2009

Our travel tips for fall 2009 center on the German Reunification, 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and treasures of East Germany.
In November 1989, the Berlin Wall fell and after almost 30 years Berlin was once again a free city.  In celebration of the fall of the Wall, our capital is planning a range of events related to the reunification of Germany and the changes in Berlin.

In 2009, Berlin like some other East German Cities such as Leipzig and Dresden is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and stands as a symbol for a divided country and of the Cold War. After more than 28 years of German division, the Berlin Wall fell almost overnight in November 1989, a historical event of global significance. Today, 20 years later, Germany, Europe and the whole world look back, in order to look forward. Experience history where it unfolded. Many events like the Open Air Exhibition "Peaceful Revolution 1898/1990, "Moments in Time 1989/90" in the Film Museum and the open-air theater "The Giants are Coming - a fairy tale for Berlin" will take place this fall to commemorate the events of 1989/90. On November 9, the actual day of the anniversary, Berlin will celebrate the fall of the wall with numerous parades, street fairs and concerts.
