1,000 lakes - 1,000 possibilities
The Mecklenburg lakeland area covers no less than a third of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Which is not surprising, as it consists of some 1,000 lakes, including Lake Müritz, the largest lake within Germany (117 square kilometres). There is nothing standing in the way of visitors who come here for the water sports or for trips on a motor yacht, canoe, sailing boat or houseboat. The modern marinas and numerous mooring places are just the starting point for wonderful trips out, perhaps to the medieval town of Waren or the magnificent Tollense Lake near Neubrandenburg. The Müritz National Park is a unique landscape of reeds and marshes, a nature conservation area where you can watch rare birds, such as cranes, ospreys and sea eagles.
