Come to "Venice" - in the Spree Forest
Nowhere else in Europe comes close: numerous island farmsteads linked together by watercourses large and small - welcome to the Spree Forest, the "Venice" of Brandenburg. You can take a trip around the watery labyrinth in a traditional wooden punt, starting out from one of the many quiet villages where customs and handicrafts from days gone by are still being kept alive. More adventurous souls can hire their own canoe or explore the area's woods and meadows on the many cycle trails and footpaths. The Spree Forest was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1991 to help preserve its unique and unspoilt nature.
