"Rothaarsteig" - a hiking path for the senses

Two walkers hiking along the Rothaarsteig trail
Enjoying nature with all of your senses: what has become more and more impossible in everyday life can now be experienced along the new hiking path "Rothaarsteig©" with every step you take. Along the path, hikers can experience the forest in a sensuous way, by opening their minds to the views, sounds and smells of a unique landscape. "Rothaar" derives from "rauhe Höhe", meaning "rough height". In fact, the path, which leads through this densely wooded low mountain range, is truely rough, it sometimes even has a wild character. The path itself is partly stony or moist, the forest mossy and impenetrable. Chrystal clear waters stream from the "Rothaarkamm" mountain ridge, which extends over quite a length. The water, which has been filtered by numerous layers of slate, originates from the rivers Ruhr, Eder, Lenne, Dill, Lahn and Sieg. The exciting and diverse mountain ridge reaches up to an altitude of 840 meters. At the top, hikers can enjoy astonishing views and breathe in the cool and fresh mountain air.

"Rothaarsteig" hiking path stretches over an entire length of 160 km, connecting the village of Brilon in the Sauerland region with the town of Dillenburg, which lies at the foot of the Westerwald mountains. In addition, you can also hike the "Hochsauerland" path, which leads through valleys, or the "Hoher Westerwald" path, which leads accross mountains. Both provide another 60 km of hiking paths. The region offers sufficient routes and paths, allowing visitors to relax while being active and to discover nature with all of their senses. The new high-altitude route accross the Sauerland region offers pure hiking experiences - go ahead and discover a touch of wildernis in the middle of Germany!
